A "Form A" (Normally Open/NO) magnetic reed switch is the most common type which consists of two ferromagnetic reeds in a glass envelope that are apart when No Magnetic Field is present. The contacts CLOSE (allowing current flow) when a magnet is positioned near, and open when the magnet is removed.

Key Characteristics and Applications
  • Default State: Normally Open (NO).
  • Operation: Closes in the presence of a magnetic field.
  • Configuration: Single Pole Single Throw (SPST).
  • Versatility: Can be actuated by either polarity of a magnet.
  • Typical Uses: Position sensors, security door/window alarms, and proximity sensing.
